The Company

A multiple line, property and casualty company domiciled in Anchorage with its offices at 1901 Bragaw Street. Umialik was incorporated in May of 1981 and received its Certificate of Authority in June of 1981 in Alaska and October of 1998 in Washington. Our current A.M. Best rating is A. Umialik is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, the largest city in Alaska. Anchorage has over 300,000 residents and continues to grow at about 2% per year.

Ownership

As of December 1, 2010, Umialik Insurance Company is now officially a member of the Western National Insurance Group, a super-regional group of seven active companies serving the property-and-casualty insurance needs of individuals, families, and businesses.  The group’s products are sold exclusively through professional independent agents in 12 states in the Midwestern, Northwestern, and Southwestern U.S.

Reinsurance

All reinsurance is placed with major U.S. Reinsurers and is structured to provide protection to the Company and its insureds. All of our Reinsurers are A or better A.M. Best rated.

Claims

All claims are handled by staff or independent adjusters under the direction of the claims department.

Underwriting

All of Umialik's business is underwritten and issued in its Anchorage office. The Company is filed to use ISO and NCCI rates and rules.

All underwriting decisions are made by our qualified staff with many years of experience and knowledge.
